The backbenchers revolt - a damp squib?

In his 6pm BBC TV news  report today, October 24th, Deputy Political Editor James Landale stated that

"the important thing about the MP's vote tonight is not whether there will be an "in/out referendum" on Britain's membership of the EU, -  the important thing will be the measure of the backbenchers'  agreement with the government's policies".

WRONG !!!

What is important, and it is about time this government realised this, is what the British populace actually want.

But Cameron and his coalition, of course,  like countless others before them, are very careful to ignore this.

The phrase they are at great pains to avoid, is

"An in/out referendum on EU membership".

So what the MP's vote is really about is actually just the usual internal petty squabbling between MPs , which, let's face it, is what British politics is all about and has been for years.

You only have to watch Prime Minister's Question Time to see what I mean.
NOTHING is ever resolved there, it is always, and only, about hurling derogatory epithets across the room.

BAH !!!

DESPICABLE PEOPLE !!

Lying, untrustworthy, bloody despicable politicians !!!

If ever you had the slightest doubt that any and all politicians cannot be trusted an inch, here is another example of how they lie, wriggle out of promises, and change their minds and their policies at the drop of a hat.

All of which invariably has a detrimental effect on the populace, usually another infringement of their civil rights, or if you prefer it in today's jargon, their human rights.

The monstrous Nick Clegg U-turn on students' fees caused uproar and resentment which still simmers all over the country, with the possibility of exploding into direct and dangerous action at any given moment. A lot of the people who believed in him and trusted him have changed their minds now !! And does he expect  that he will get the votes of the students next time around?
Of course he bloody won't !!

Now we have David Cameron,
who, while he was the opposition leader, decried Labour's intentions to have cigarette packs and tobacco products removed from display and hidden "under the counter".

And what has he done now he has inveigled the populace into voting him into power?

Why, he has quietly and surreptitiously introduced that very same ban, effective from April 2012, a complete U-turn on his previous policy, an infringement of peoples' freedoms, - announced, no less, on No Smoking Day, - and another incontrovertible and disgusting demonstration of how you just cannot believe a single solitary word any politician utters.

As usual, the government has not completely thought through their latest imposition on the public. Just two days after a TV programme devoted to showing us how widespread and dangerous the illicit and counterfeit tobacco trade is, what does Cameron also propose?

To make cigarette packs white and virtually unmarked, no brand logos, pictures or anything else.

That's right, play straight into the counterfeiters' hands, you unbelievably stupid cretin !

I've said it elsewhere, but I'll say it again :-

YOU ARE A
PUBLIC SERVANT !

DON'T PRESUME TO TELL YOUR MASTERS WHAT THEY CAN DO !

The same ban on tobacco display has been delayed in Scotland due to a legal challenge.

So listen here, businesses, the tobacco industry, smokers and any other interested parties,

get your acts together,

literally, and obtain a legal stop to this ban before it's introduced, and show Cameron, probably the most untrustworthy Prime Minister we have had in decades, that he cannot just manipulate and interfere with peoples' rights and livelihoods, affect businesses entities whether they be huge supermarkets or corner shops,

simply because HE thinks it's right !!

And because he wants to be seen "doing the right thing" for all the "anti-smoking do-gooders".

"Do-gooders"
mind your own business

and leave other people alone !! We are not obliged to agree with your views !!

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD !!

Political correctness is crippling this country.

We all know that. Whether you like to believe it or not, there is no question about it.  Came across an example the other day of how stupid it is, and how restricting, (and possibly dangerous. But only for guys, it seems!)
The BBC One Show made a short film of different situations in a workplace, with a panel of nine "everyday judges", male and female, and a so called "expert" to give a legal view on each of the three examples.
In the first, a female starts to eat a doughnut, watched by a male colleague. He expresses surprise and uses the expression, "..... your lovely figure."

EIGHT of the nine gave him a red card and said they thought the comment was either creepy, or insulting, or bordering on sexual harassment.
Only one person, a FEMALE, stated that she had taken the comment to be a compliment.

The legal "expert" gave the opinion that the guy could possibly have been disciplined for sexual harassment.
In the third of the examples two females are talking in a corridor outside a door. The guy comes up in a rush, says "Excuse me, ladies" and places his hands on the hips of one female and gently eases her aside so he can get to the door.

Everyone thought that was okay.

The legal asshole thought it wasn't, and said that each of the examples was a borderline case which could result in disciplinary or even legal action against the guy.
In other words, the legal "expert" was hedging his bets so that any opinion he gave couldn't come back and bite him in the ass. Useless twat!

THERE WAS NO EXAMPLE WHERE THE FEMALE SAID, OR DID,
ANYTHING TO THE GUY!!

So what do we conclude from this ridiculous and biased view of what is correct and what is not?

Well, first, sexual harassment apparently only works one way. A female is apparently incapable of initiating anything resembling sexual harassment to a guy.

Otherwise, the Oh-So-Correct-BBC would have given an example of that too, right??
They didn't !!

Second, don't speak a word to a female colleague, because almost anything you say can be taken the wrong way. Don't even THINK about trying to pay a compliment to a female colleague!!   Just don't speak. Ignore all females in the workplace.

It's safer!

Third, you can manhandle a female with virtual impunity. Placing your hands on the hips of a female colleague is less likely to get you in trouble than trying to pay her a compliment.

How utterly stupid, pathetic, insulting and biased, is that ???

Crippling.

FEMALES:-  Knock it off! For your information, flirting has been around longer than texting. Yes! It is possible to flirt by voice, or even mild gestures.....not just by frantically tapping keys on your phone. Well, fancy that! A mild compliment issued by voice is NOT a sign that the guy is a pervert! If he hasn't actually grabbed your tits or your ass, take the comment at face value as a compliment, or a mild flirt, unless it's OBVIOUS that there is a seriously creepy element. Telling you that you have a lovely figure is neither creepy nor perverted!

It's only been the natural order of things for several hundred years.
But nowadays, you know better, do you?

GUYS:- If you really want to pay her a compliment, or flirt with her with a view to a date, do it in the car park where there is no chance of anyone else overhearing! At least that way you can vehemently deny you ever said anything!

Failing that, you'll have to text her.

 FORESTRY LAND SELL-OFF.

So, the government is considering selling off and privatising the Forestry Commission lands througout the country, the favoured territory of hikers, ramblers, bird watchers and even anglers.

THEY WOULD DO WELL TO REMEMBER
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THEY PRIVATISED
BRITISH RAIL,  PARTS OF LONDON UNDERGROUND
AND THE INDEPENDENT COACH COMPANIES
TO FORM NATIONAL EXPRESS.

UTTER BLOODY DISASTER
AND EVEN (IN THE CASE OF BRITISH RAIL) DEATHS !!

It's not a "product" you can sell off.
Listen to the voices of the people who put you where you are
and leave our countryside alone !!!

UPDATE !!

Fortunately, they've now abandoned the idea.

Could it really be, that the government is actually listening to the voice of the populace ??

Naaahhh!

Cameron's non-functioning society.

David Cameron has admitted that "this multicultural society isn't working."

 Brilliant !!

He has only acknowledged what the general populace could have told him years ago.
And he has confirmed what Angela Merkel said a while back.

Cameron said, in respect of certain factions in society, and I quote;-
"....people have been fearful to stand up to them."

 Agreed !!

Given his implication that somebody should do just that, the crucial question is:-
was this rhetoric, or

will he actually do it ??

We wait with bated breath........

"FAT"  TAX

So, Oldham Council want to levy a £1000  "fat" tax on the fast-food outlets in the town,  because some idiot thinks that targeting them will stop people becoming obese.

Duuuhhhh!

How utterly stupid!

That is exactly the same as prosecuting, or levying a fine, on a  gun manufacturer because one of their products has killed somebody.
It isn't the manufacturers or the purveyors of the items, you stupid idiots!

It's the purchasers or users of the item that you need to target. Levying a tax on the shops that provide fast food will, eventually,  just put them out of business. It won't stop people buying fish and chips, hamburgers, kebabs or anything else from a bigger, more established outlet!

The only way to get people to cut down on fast food is to educate them when they are young, not to eat rubbish food and to consume a healthy diet. Trouble is, the people who buy and eat fast food probably can't afford a healthy diet.

On the other hand, what that £1000 tax will do, is to provide extra money in the council coffers for them to spend on their jollies. So they can afford a bit more caviar and champers every time they have a meeting!

That's all that tax will do!

Anyone noticed just how much control the Russians have acquired over the world's natural resources?

Now BP have done a deal with them to take a (less than 50%) stake in the largest  natural gas and oil fields ever discovered, -- under the Arctic.

The fields are bigger, apparently, than the original North Sea find.
So now the Russians have an even bigger chunk of the resources that we,  our children, and particularly our grandchildren, are all going to rely on.

Hmmmmmm!!

Seems to me that  someone   should be keeping a very wary eye on all this !!!

About fuel prices.

The high cost of fuel is certainly beginning to cripple this economy and this country.

Isn't it about time, instead of waving a carrot under OPEC's nose to reduce oil prices per barrel, they tried a bloody great stick instead?

Always thought cartels were illegal, anyway.

Do the politicians and government rip us off ??

Yep !!

It's generally understood by the majority of the populace that under Gordon Brown's  administration we have ended up in a combined "Nanny/Big Brother/ Police" state.

1 comment:

  1. Is Britain a democracy? The establishment would like the people of this nation to believe so because thinking that we (the people) are in control gives us hope and helps to keep us calm.
Recent major events have shown that belief in a Democratic Britain is an illusion.
    For example:

If we had been consulted about going to war in Iraq and Afghanistan and the government (our servants) had given us a referendum on our invading these two sovereign states and obeyed our will then that would have been democratic.

If because of the far reaching changes that have come about since the signing of the original Common Market agreement we had been given a referendum on each of the subsequent treaties and the government had obeyed our will then that would have been democratic.

If we had been consulted about the prospect of uncontrolled immigration and the government had given us a referendum on the matter and obeyed our will then that would have been democratic.

It is unlikely that any political party in an election or government in office would have been given a mandate to go to war in Iraq or Afghanistan, nor to sign away the country’s sovereignty to Brussels, nor to open the immigration flood gates.

The government owes its allegiance to the people. To disobey or ignore the will of the people is to break that allegiance - is this not treason? The English dictionary says yes. Perhaps Cameron, Clegg, Blair, Brown and maybe some others should be called to account on charges of treason and suffer the consequences if found guilty.

As things stand the only thing democratic about Britain is that we get to elect, but we elect a four/five year DICTATORSHIP.

The dictionary has three definitions of DICTATORSHIP, one of which is:-
"absolute, imperious, or overbearing power or control".

As successive governments have ignored the will of the people and continue to do so, that definition is chillingly appropriate.

Do we need a latter-day Magna Carta or another Civil War to bring about some semblance of a true democracy? Let us hope not.

Of course a government must be free to administer the day to day needs of a nation but it is clear that no British government can be trusted with the important decisions and it is arrogant in the extreme for any government to believe it knows better than the collective wisdom of a nation's people.
